Today it has become clear why we
were so right to make this decision. We got up to beautiful blue skies and
sunshine. Yes, it was still a little chilly, but it wasn’t grey and it wasn’t
raining and it was just a wonderful start to the day.
It’s not quite breakfast on the
patio weather yet but that didn’t matter. After breakfast we went out into the
garden to continue the fencing to solve the issue of the escaping dogs. The
dogs are rather fond of adventures too and have discovered the gaps in the
fencing! Over the next week or two we plan to make the garden as dog proof as
possible. I’ll keep you posted on how successful we are.
We originally went to Briconauts,
a local DIY store a bit like B&Q but far more expensive! We had heard stories
before we arrived of the cost of DIY supplies but were still really surprised
at the prices. In Briconauts there was a combined light switch and plug socket
as a single unit and it was well over £20 (in euros obviously!). So if you buy
a property that needs renovation work, even a small amount, bear in mind that
it will cost you far more in France than in the UK. Take advice from locals
about the best place to shop for such things as fence posts, paint, electrical
supplies or other DIY goods!
Brico Pro is cheaper but local
independents are cheaper still! Shop around, and even try the local Super U as
they have small items in stock too.
Well we have completed over 100metres of fencing - not bad without any "gadgets", motorised or otherwise to help make the job easier. Hubby's swung a sledgehammer, I've dug post holes, and between us we've done wiring and stock fencing. All in all it's been a team effort.
But the dogs are still escaping(only another 240metres to go, not to mention gate and gate posts)
and the weather is still glorious...
